Why Wood Pellets? 1. Wood Pellets are an inexpensive way to heat. In a cost per BTU comparison using current costs for both heating oil and wood pellets, pellet heating costs about half of what it costs to heat with oil. Furthermore, wood pellet pricing has been stable over the past several years, where oil has gone up more than threefold in just a few seasons. Using wood pellets for heat, we figure that an average home can save in the thousands of dollars per year with oil at current levels.
2. Wood Pellets are a renewable resource. Not only do wood pellets cost less to heat than with oil, but the raw material used to make pellets is found right here in the forests of Northern New England. Plans for a new pellet-making facility are in the works for the New Hampshire North Country that will add a tremendous amount of additional capacity to current supplies. The healthy forests of our region are an excellent place to grow and cultivate raw materials for wood pellet production.
3. Wood Pellets are a clean-burning source of heat. Because premium wood pellets are low in moisture and high in BTU content, they burn more completely, producing more heat and tremendously fewer emissions than burning cordwood. Today’s pellet-burning stoves and central heating systems leave behind only a trace of ash for the quantity of wood pellets burned which means less maintenance and more worry-free operation. 4. Pellet Stoves and Pellets are available now – at Jesse E. Lyman, Inc!
